Kapoor gets 7

A man charged for manslaughter, arson and damaging property was sentenced to seven years by the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Shammi Kapoor appeared before Judge Justice Salesi Temo who sentenced him with a non- parole period of six years.

According to the particulars read out in court Kapoor willfully and lawfully set fire to a house belonging to Salesh Kumar of Wailea Settlement causing the death of Mr Kumar’s son who was sleeping inside the house. Kapoor has 30 days to appeal.

 

Duo jailed 

Two men have been sentenced by the Suva High Court for manslaughter yesterday.

Samuela Kaci, 20, and Apenisa Tubakilakeba, 23, appeared before Justice Salesi Temo.

Both the accused have been charged with one count each of manslaughter which led to the death of Veresa Tabuanakoro of Tacirua East.

Kaci has been sentenced to five years in jail with a non-parole sentence of four years. Tubakilakeba has been sentenced to four years in jail with a mandatory term of three years.

They have 30 days to appeal.
