Francis Kean is urging commercial companies to support the Vodafone Fijian 7s team and their Road to Gold campaign.

The Fijian Rugby Union board chairman made the comment after Coca-Cola Amatil made a $40,000 donation to the Road To Gold campaign.

“To all the other commercial companies out there, we hope that this is a stimulus for you to come forward and support our boys,” Kean said.

“This is a grand opportunity for Fiji to win its first gold as our 7s team stands a very high chance of doing the nation proud.

“I hope that what Coca-Cola Amatil has done will be followed by other companies out there that are willing to come on board to support our national 7s team.

“We would like to extend our appreciation to Coca-Cola Amatil for this generous gesture of financial support towards the Road to Gold campaign.

“We believe the support from Coca-Cola will be an unending one as our relationship and partnership that we have enjoyed over a number of years.”

Kean said the donation by Coca-Cola Amatil will be put to good use.

“I’m sure that the generous donation will be put into good and effective use and also a very motivating tool to the players that will be selected to represent Fiji at the Rio Olympics in August,” he said.

“Again I’d like to echo the sentiments of what rugby union does to the country particularly the 7s team.

“I know the year has been a challenging one for the boys but what they have done will go down in sporting history. I’m sure coach Ben Ryan and his coaching team will have a tough time selecting the best that will be representing the country.”
