The millions of dollars spent every year to create infrastructure where it does not exist or is not fully functional was key for recovery from natural disasters, says northern divisional planning officer Alipate Bolalevu.

During the opening of the one -day Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) informational forum at the Friendly North Inn in Labasa yesterday, Mr Bolalevu said maintenance for road infrastructure was very important so that it remains efficient and resilient.

“Within three days after TC Winston, the whole of the primary road network was more or less open, providing supply routes and emergency access across both of the main islands.”

Fiji Roads Authority maintenance works manager Aram Goes told the stakeholders gathered that Government had high expectation from FRA and they were working hard to get work done.

“We do face challenging situations and it takes us some time and some money but we manage to get work done,” Mr Goes said.
