Vunimono Sanatan Dharam Primary School launched their “Fight the Bite” campaign at their school in Nausori yesterday.

With the theme, ‘A healthier, cleaner and safer Vunimono’, it started with different activities organised each day for the students and staff to take part in.

The campaign began with the headteacher’s message and the launch followed by the posters and art displays by students portraying ways to prevent mosquitoes from breeding and stopping the spread of mosquitoes transmitted diseases.

Headteacher Rishi Chand said mosquitoes were a major threat to personal and public health.

“Mosquitoes can breed around your homes and spread deadly, killer diseases like dengue, filariasis, Zika, and chikungunya.

“We can all protect our health by controlling mosquitoes that spread disease with the most effective way which is destroying their breeding places,” Mr Chand said.

He encouraged the students to be actively involved in keeping their surroundings clean and organise a clean-up campaign in their homes and communities.

“Our children can make a big difference in our communities.

“We must all realise the importance of keeping our surroundings mosquitoes-free in order to have a safer Fiji,” Mr Chand said.
