Veiuto Primary School are using this year’s Fiji National Schools Swimming Championship as a build-up to next year’s event.

Dubbed the Sharks, they won the boys and girls grade in 2012.

“We have 20 swimmers which we are aiming to develop,” manager Willie Tawake said.

“This is basically a preparation platform for our swimmers to bring out the potential and shape them in time for next year’s championship.

“Our team this year looks promising and we are hoping to develop them and get them fully ready for next year,” he said.

“Our main focus this year was to come and enjoy the sport and for the kids to enjoy swimming. This sport is considered a minor sport so we want them to have the feeling of what it is like to compete in such a championship.

“We are looking forward to the second day of competitions and I urge the public and supporters to come out in numbers to support our young swimmers.”
