Last minute penalty saves Macuata

Vatukoula put on a gutsy performance to hold Macuata 8-8 in their Skipper Cup clash at Theodore Park, Vatukoula yesterday.

What Happened: Macuata took the lead in the 34th minute through a try to Apakuki Vuaviri, which was not converted.

Vatukoula replied through Manoa Natorogia when he scored a try just before halftime.

Half Time: Vatukoula 5-5 Macuata

The second half was a torrid affair as both teams gave their all trying to score a win- which is now very crucial at this stage of the competition.

Vatukoula took the lead 8-5 when Emori Ratu converted a penalty in the 53rd minute. But Macuata fought back and Waisea Vocea was the toast of the side when he kicked in a penalty in the 78nd minute as they settled for a draw.

Comments

Vatukoula coach Nemani Balenaceva was disappointed with the result as he wanted them to win.

“The result was not what we had expected. We gave away possession and the players need to work on their decision making before we face Nadi next week.”

Macuata Rugby secretary Ropate Rakadi said they are going to focus on improving their performance.

“Our target is to improve on the basic areas of our game and we’ve got to play smart from now on. I am happy how the players coped during the game and manage to equalise right at the very last minute.”
