Naitasiri powers over hapless Tavua

 

The Reverend Jioji Rinakima coached- BLK Naitasiri side thrashed Tavua 34-17 in their Skipper Cup battle at Garvey Park, Tavua yesterday. The Hillmen claimed a bonus point when they scored five tries.

What happened: Naitasiri fielded four debutants in the likes of Inoke Karavaki, Peni Tubunaruarua, Eroni Mawi, and Kolinio Namaralevu. But Tavua stole the show in the first minute through an intercept by centre Atueta Guivalu and converted by fullback Semisi Vauvau to lead 7-0. Four minutes later Vauvau slotted another penalty to increase their tally to 10-0.

Then Naitasiri first five eight Etonia Rokotuisawa kicked a penalty in 19th minute to narrow the gap 3-10.

The Naitasiri forwards began to pile the pressure on the Tavua defence and in 24th minute inside centre Sevanaia Duiraki scored their first try as they trailed 8-10. Then five minutes later Naitasiri winger Patemio Buto scored an unconverted try as they led for the first time 13-10. Rokotuisawa managed to score a try in the 39th minute, which he converted.

Halftime: Naitasiri 20-10 Tavua

Tavua started well in the second spell with try to flanker Gabrielle Ratu and converted by Vauvau as they came closer 20-17. In the 57th minute substitute Joseva Basudra scored Naitasiri’s try and it was converted by Rokotuisawa. Hooker Jerry Naureure sealed the win with a glorious try in the 77 minute, which was converted by Rokotuisawa.

Star turn: Rokotuisawa was the toast of the side scoring a total of 14 points in the match.

Big plays: Tavua fullback Vauvau played a grand game.

Natasiri coach Reverend Jioji Rinakama said: “Happy with the bonus point and the performance of the boys in this game. They have lifted up their performance from their previous games.”

Tavua coach Akariva Tabutaci said: “Very disappointed but they can improve, as they did not click in the second half. We were penalised a lot and need to improve on our discipline.”
