David Sullivan won the Fijian International Triathlon long course event in Denarau, Nadi yesterday.

The 49-year old from Sydney, Australia clocked four hours, 41 minutes and 17 seconds in the Sofitel-sponsored  event.

“I feel happy and good at the moment, it was a pretty easy race and I did not push it too hard, was pretty happy with it in the end,” said Sullivan.

“This is the third year in a row that I am participating in the race and I had a good run. Lucky this time around there was no professional athlete in the competition today.”

Alex Gohari (4.43.16s) came in second while Cam Kerr settled for third (4.51.40s).

In the women category Leanne Kelly came first (6.55.41s) while Judy Chesney and Shai O’Brien in second and third respectively.

100% Events managing director Mark Stewart said the event  attracted athletes from  Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Papua New Guinea and from around the world.

“It started on Friday with the Ocean swims, on Saturday we had ocean swim for Cure Kids raising awareness and funds for Cure Kids here in Fiji.

“Everyone had a fantastic time; Athletes from different countries were here to compete.”

The final event include  the 2km swim leg directly in front of the Sheraton Fiji Resort  in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean, then exit the resort grounds on the three lap bike course.

That is riding through the main street of Nadi town and past the famous Sri Siva Subrahmaniya Swami Hindu Temple before heading out through the rich farmlands alongside the celebrated cane train tracks near Korovuto before returning to the Sheraton for each lap.

It ended with the 20k run course on the Island of Denarau.

“Also we want to thank all our sponsors Sofitel and Tourism Fiji and hopefully next year we will do even better,” Stewart said.
