Fijian peacekeepers in Sinai will start coming home from this Thursday.

“We expect troop movements from June 02 under the reconfiguring programme,” Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) director peacekeeping Commander Humphrey Tawake said.

As of yesterday, there were 99 soldiers in the North Camp and 179 in the South Camp.

He said 31 Fijian troops still occupied two remote sites in North Sinai which would be vacated soon.

According to Commander Tawake 29 soldiers arrived into the country on Saturday after serving in Sinai for one year.

He said those that arrived were going to rotate initially after one year duty that included Batt 34 Command Team led by Lieutenant  Colonel Petero Talemaivatuwiri.

The troops in North Sinai are returning to Fiji because of the deteriorating situation there with so called Islamic State militants escalating violence.
