Japan Sunwolves centre John Stewart has pulled out of the Vodafone Flying Fijians June Tests which start on June 11.

Stewart suffered a knee injury in the Sunwolves 25-35 loss to the Queensland Reds in the Super Rugby competitions two weeks ago which has ruled him out for the entire June tests.

The Naikorokoro, Kadavu native’s dream of donning the white jersey and representing his country will have to be put on hold until hopefully the end of the year.

The 28-year-old is very disappointed about the missed opportunity to be part of the team in very important test match against Tonga and Samoa which is a qualification round for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Tokyo, Japan.

“I was really looking forward to coming home and playing in the June tests,” Stewart said from Tokyo yesterday.

“Unfortunately I injured my knee in our game against the Queensland Reds so I’ve pulled out of the June tests.

“I know how crucial those first two games are for Fiji as they are qualifiers for the 2019 World Cup.

“I was really looking forward to playing for Fiji because it would have been a dream come true to finally be a part of the Flying Fijians squad. So yes, I am very disappointed but I have been in constant contact with Vodafone Flying Fijians coach John McKee.”

However, Stewart will not let this minor setback prevent him from fulfilling his dream of playing for the Flying Fijians as he is aiming for the end of the year tour.

“Yes I’m looking forward to the end of the year tour and I will be working very hard towards that.” he said.

Stewart was part of the Fijian Warriors team and also played for the Vodafone Fijian 7s team in the 2012-2013 World Sevens Series in Dubai and South Africa.

The Vodafone Flying Fijians will camp tomorrow. They play Tonga on June 11, Manu Samoa on June 18 and Georgia on June 24 at the ANZ Stadium.
