The Marine Industrial and Structural Engineering Limited (MISEL) is into their 19th year of operations and so far have successfully completed a lot of major projects.

MISEL senior executive officer, Kelepi Funilagi said they provide services throughout the country and also to other parts of the Pacific region. He said services provided by MISEL are in four different sections.

They are:

  • Welding and fabrication
  • Fitting and machining workshop
  • Slipway facility and carpentry workshop (2 cradle maximum 100 tones)
  • Surface preparation and industrial coating workshop.

Mr Funilagi said their slipway is always booked with fishing vessels, coming as far as Papua New Guinea for repair works. He pointed out that this is because being repaired by them is like a one-stop shop since everything is accessible under one roof.

Now there are island resort vessels and yachts that are also coming in to use the slipway as well.

“Our engineering workshop also provide underwater gear repairs, vessel fiberglass and steel hull structural maintenance, machinery repairs, steel structural fabrication and maintenance of machinery,” he said.

RESORT YACHT

Last week the yacht based at Vacala Bay Resort in Taveuni was up the MISEL slipway.

Mr Funilagi said the works carried out include power wash, sanding and painting above and below the waterline with coated paints which was requested by the owner of the yacht.

He said the yacht had been hauled-up on May 25 and was back into the water on Sunday.

Yacht owner Paul Negro said they offer day and extended term charters from Taveuni to surrounding islands and atolls in Northern Lau. The yacht is also available for surf, kite surf and SUP charters.

Mr Negro added that the services provided by MISEL were great and the staff members were fantastic.

“But getting a proper appointment to haul out can be difficult due to demand from other vessels as well,” he said.
