PNG To Give Election $3.3mil

Papua New Guinea is expected to give a cheque of F$3.3 million (5m Kina) to Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama today.

This is part of money that PNG had pledged to give Fiji in 2014 during and after the elections.

50m Kina (F$33.7m) had been pledged and 25m Kina (F$16.87m)  had been given to Fiji, with the other half pending for close to two years.

‘Yes we will’

PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said: “Yes we will release 5m (Kina) for Cyclone Winston appeal tomorrow and balance for project to be identified in Fiji and released as agreed between the two countries.”

The two leaders met at the fringes of the African, Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP) meetings that are currently underway in PNG.
