The Labasa Tourism Association believes having an international port of entry in the province is not going to only boost tourism but the business sector as well.

Association president and renowned hotelier Paul Jaduram said this is an urgent need.

He said this has been highlighted numerous times by the Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industries over the years.

“We have been very patient and I don’t think the private sector can invest into such kind of infrastructure,” Mr Jaduram said.

“It is the Government who need to step-up and consider our plight and concern to have an international port of entry. There is no international port of entry in Macuata.”

But if there is an international port of entry in Macuata, Mr Jaduram says, it will surely be a spin off with more tourism developments in the Northern Division.

“As it is no one wants to invest in the tourism industry like making of new hotels or resorts.

“The international port of entry will benefit everyone in the Northern Division. “There will be flow of many goods and services and arrival of more tourists encouraging more business growth.”

Mr Jaduram said, he understands that Government is working tirelessly to assist Tropical Cyclone Winston victims.

However, he believes the need to have an international port of entry in Macuata needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
