FSSRU Revives Tier 2 Competition

The Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union will be expecting a bigger competition this year.

FSSRU president Setareki Merekula said this came after the revival of the Tier 2 competition especially in the Northern Zone.

Merekula said the board had abolished the Tier 2 competition during last year’s annual general meeting.

“When we didn’t have the Tier 2 all the teams were in Tier 1. We had to reformat our competition so that we could accommodate Tier 2 zones, who had been competing for the past few years and one of the zones is from the north.

“What we have done is that the Southern and Eastern zones have given a place for the Northern zone to come in for their qualifying round.”

Although there weren’t any new schools joining, he says, the competition this year will be bigger.

Cyclone affected schools

For prominent schools that were affected by Cyclone Winston like Queen Victoria School, Merekula adds, that as long as they can make up the numbers for a team, they are free to participate. “The under-18 team for QVS had been given a chance to represent their school. This includes all grades and all affected schools,” he added.
