Craig Powell Appointed New Gm Of The Fijian

Today’s Shangri-La’s pro-am golf has attracted 28 sponsors and close to $40,000 worth of sponsorship. The Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa will donate five per-cent of all sponsorship from the pro-am to relief works carried out on communities that were worst hit by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

The annual event is to be staged before a visit to Rakiraki, by a team of volunteers from the resort, to provide relief works in partnership with the Fiji Red Cross.

Resort general manager Craig Powell said, “Our relief work for Cyclone Winston started immediately in the aftermath and we will donate five per-cent of the sponsorship pledges towards the relief work that will commence shortly in Rakiraki.”

“We are overwhelmed at the generosity of our sponsors who have made a commitment to this and while we already have resources at our disposal we felt that any additional assistance could extend what we had already planned in terms of relief work in communities who still need our help,” Powell said.

He said their priority is to look after colleagues by helping them rebuild their family homes wherever they are located in Fiji as well as communities in the northern division who were affected.

“We also contacted the Fiji Red Cross as we felt they were well-placed to help us reach out further as we wanted to ensure that the best possible assistance would go out to communities in need.

“The Fiji Red Cross recently took a member of our team to Ra to identify where we would go and what we needed to do.

“At the outset schools which lost everything has been identified as a key area that we will assist in as well as rebuilding homes where we can with our own tradespeople and the Red Cross team.”
