Be wary of the words that you use, said Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni yesterday in Parliament.

She made these comments after a heated debate between Opposition and Government on a petition that was tabled in Parliament.

During the debate, the Attorney-General and Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum raised a point of order where he claimed National Federation Party member Tupou Draunidalo labelled Education Minister Mahendra Reddy as a “fool”.

Claims

Ms Draunidalo defended herself and claimed Mr Reddy “in his speech calling us dumb natives, you idiot”

However, it had been confirmed outside Parliament that Mr Reddy had NOT said “dumb natives’”either inside or outside of Parliament.

Dr Luveni reminded MPs to use respectable words.

“Yes, the debate has been lively just be careful with the words that are being used,” she said.
