Kiwi profesional golfers Peter Zwart and Kieran Muir won the Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa Pro – Am golf on Yanuca Island in Nadroga yesterday.

They both shot a six under par (56) while Brad Shilton shot 5 under par 57 to settle for third spot.

Muir said it was a tough but enjoyed the competition.

”It was a terrific field out there and happy to share the lead with Peter and we look forward to the coming days of golfing under the beautiful sun,” he said.

Coastal Rental-sponsored Inoke Nawaikui won the amateur category scoring (51 nett) while Pawan Reddy came second on countback (51) and Mohammed Nawaz in third  spot (52).

In the women’s category Hans Hanna scored (53nett), Norika Blay in second (countback) on while Catherine Powell carded 54.

South Pacific Golf director Richard Ellis said the golf course has grown since the Pro-Am was played in there 40 years ago.

”The golf course looks maginificient and we look forward to next year’s event,” he said.

Resort general manager Craig Powell said the one-day event attracted 30 businesshouses  and raised $40,000.

“We thank the sponsors, 96 golfers which included 28 professionals for their contribution in helping cyclone victims,”he said.

He said a team from the resort together with the Fiji Red Cross will visit areas in Ra to help with the relief effort.
