The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has put in place a contingency plan for our returning peacekeepers from Sinai.

This was confirmed to the Fiji Sun yesterday by the RFMF director Peacekeeping, Commander Humphrey Tawake.

The contingency plan will see some of these returning peacekeepers deployed to the Golan Heights and Iraq.

Commander Tawake said the temporary withdrawal from Sinai would go ahead and the troops have been booked on civilian flights.

He revealed that most of the peacekeepers had financial commitments and their deployment to peacekeeping areas, in this case Sinai, would help them.

Some had applied for loans, which had to be repaid from the peacekeeping money.

The RFMF will look at these cases and Commander Tawake has assured the returning peacekeepers that this would be taken care of.

The first group will arrive over the weekend. Commander Tawake again reassured the families and the nation that the soldiers at the North and South camps were safe.

As of yesterday Commander Tawake said nothing had changed in the situation at the North Camp. Our peacekeeping soldiers at the two remote sites are still there.
