A feast of international fans can be witnessed  during the hosting the Punjas Oceania Tennis Championship which started yesterday  at the Victoria Courts and Suva Lawn Tennis courts respectively.

The championship was opened by the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Faiyaz Siddiq Koya yesterday.

Sixty players from 14 Pacific countries will be competing and that include Australia, New Zealand, Federated States of, Micronesia, Northern Marianas, Vanuatu, Solomon, Kiribati, Tonga, New, Caledonia, Tahiti, Samoa, Tuvalu, Guam and Fiji.

Tennis Fiji’s president Richard Breen predicts that, based on current form, Caledonia and Australia will be the toughest.

“We can’t predict what the other competitors are going to achieve but we can say that the Fijian team is also looking very strong,” Breen said.

Gopal Jadhav, Punjas group marketing manager, said they were excited to be involved with the Oceania Championships.

“We’ve always supported sports and activities that promote healthy lifestyles and tennis fits well with this stance.

“It is also a game that people from all walks of life and all age groups, can enjoy and compete in fun or serious competitions such as this one”, he continued.

“To the people of Suva and surrounding districts we encourage you to take advantage of this wonderful international spectacle and come and enjoy a day of exciting competition in the Suva sunshine”, he added.
