Fiji is not going to repeat history, says Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He said we had shifted away from a background where Indo-Fijians were labeled as  ‘kaidias’ and ‘tevoros’.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum made these comments while showing his support on the motion for the suspension of National Federation Party president, Tupou Draunidalo in Parliament yesterday.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said we had a history when people used to criticise Indo-Fijians who were leading Government and it was all recorded.

He said when Doctor Timoci Bavadra was the Prime Minister of  this country, his Government was removed after four weeks.  He said they brought in the Indian Fijian division.

When Mahendra Chaudhry was the Prime Minister, the documentaries produced by USP, showed what they were saying at Civic Centre – “who’s the head of legislature, Chaudhry, kaidia, Hindu, tevoro, who’s the head of the judiciary, Reddy, kaidia, Hindu, tevoro, is documented.”

He said that’s the kind of background we had come  from where we had the removal of Government justified on the basis of ethnicity.

“This is why Madam Speaker it is critically important  that members of this House to which everybody is listening to must carry a particular standard, this is why it’s Standing Order 62…,” he said.
