FSC Urges Farmers To Work Together
Lorries lined up to take sugar to the Labasa Sugar Mill during the cane processing season in October the past year.

Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) is advising farmers to work together with them to have a successful 2016 cane processing season.

Labasa FSC Mill will be the first mill in Fiji to open for this year’s cane processing season on June 16. Farmers can begin harvesting cane on June 15.

Fiji Sugar Corporation executive chairman, Abdul Khan, said FSC has carried out all necessary works in making sure that the mill and associated operations around the mill functions without any problem.

“If there will be any issues or problems faced by famers, they should meet their respective field officers in the sector officer or any field officer at FSC,” Mr Khan said.

“I am sure if they both consult each other, the problems would be resolved in an amicable way.

“I believe farmers and drivers carting sugarcane to the mill are familiar and understand how the sugar industry works.

“Should there be any questions or queries they should contact the field officer. I am sure they would be available to help.”

Mr Khan said the maintenance of cane access roads and railway transportation are in the process.

“There are many other things which we are doing and of course before the crushing season begins, we would be in a good form to provide the best service to farmers.”
