Public Urged To Be Cautious When Using Social Media

Police is urging members of the public to be cautious when using social media.

This is after someone on Facebook posted that a 16-year-old girl of Tavua was raped and murdered by the suspect in a sugarcane farm.

The person also claimed that Police are looking for the suspect

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “Rape is not something to be joked about or be used for personal gain which in this case is being used to falsely accuse someone else for reasons unknown.

“People need to relook at the way they use social media and be mindful of the potential harm their posts can cause.

“A report has been lodged at the Tavua Police Station and Cyber Crime is looking into the case also,” she said.

Ms Naisoro said the post claiming a girl has been raped is false as they have not received any report on the matter.
