The Namosi rugby team dumped Tavua 24-8 in their Skipper Cup clash at Garvey Park, Tavua yesterday.

What happened: Namosi took an early lead with a try to Tevita Rabuni in the 12th minute. The conversion missed as they led 5-0. Namosi struck again in the 17th minute when Aporosa Gavidi ran in their second try which was converted by Ilai Tinai to make 12-0. Namosi went further ahead just before halftime with a try to Sevuloni Tawake with Tinai’s conversion making it 19-0.

In the 67th minute Semisi Vauvau kicked in a penalty for Tavua as they trailed 19-3. In the 77th minute a try was scored by Tavua’s Joe Savou, which brought the scores to 19-8. A last minute try to Sakai Sikaivalu sealed the game for Namosi as they romped to a 24-8 win.

Namosi manager Daniele Cakaunivalu said: “I’m indeed happy and proud of the team’s performance. The players had been working really hard and this win means a lot to us.”
