Police in Labasa are investigating a fire incident at Wailevu yesterday

Ashwin Kumar, the owner of the two-bedroom home, said his neighbour raised the alarm at around 1am. Mr Kumar, who lives in a separate home, said the house had been left empty for almost three months.

“When I woke up I heard neighbours shouting that there was fire at the doorstep of the house and everyone tried to help put out the fire,” Mr Kumar said.

“After that I checked and found a plastic bag filled with kerosene at the doorstep. It was like someone was trying to burn the house.

“I called the Police and National Fire Authority in the morning and gave them my report. I have requested them to quickly find out who would do such a thing.”

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro has confirmed that they are investigating the matter.

When Fiji Sun contacted NFA’s chief fire officer, Qionilau Moceitai, he said the case was handed over to Police because the owner had reported that he suspected someone had tried to set fire to the house.
