Almost Unanimous Support For Change

The group led by Opetaia Ravai was almost unanimously voted in at the Marist Old Boys (MOB) AGM held at Lambert Hall on Saturday.

Highlights included the attendance of over 200 MOBs locally from all parts of Fiji and by proxy from those unable to make it, especially from overseas.

MOB popular opinion came out when the 75 per cent special resolution necessary to amend the Constitution to cater for an expanded, inclusive Executive Committee was passed.

From then on the writing was on the wall for outgoing group led by Jackson Evans because elections of all officer bearers would only require a simple majority.

Way forward for MOB

As alluded to earlier, Mr Ravai’s group has an ambitious and energetic 11 point KPI-driven plan which promises to be more inclusive of all MOBs as well as more transparent in efforts to take things forward.

Word is out that in the efforts to take MOB forward, various sub-committees will be set up and it is rumoured that support is flowing in for the new President and his Executive Committee.

Prior to the AGM, Mr Ravai’s group had campaigned quite extensively, garnered support and representation from all decades via 1950s through 2000s.

MOBs have stood up and spoken at the AGM and now the time has come for the new Executive Committee to start delivering on the promises made.

Only time will tell what moves the group based out of the “RED FOREST” will make in their first meeting.

Marist Plaza answers

There was consequent endorsement for the Marist Brothers’ business decision because the Brothers themselves were there to address any and all questions arising in the matter, among other things.

If there were MOBs who were strongly opposed to the Marist Plaza project, that certainly did not reflect in the way they voted.
