Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Mahendra Reddy yesterday confirmed texts book for next year were ready for distribution.

Mr Reddy said that they were now asking the schools if there was any need for additional text books.

“In November the Ministry officials will be going to visit all the different schools around the country and ensure they have received the quantity and all the types of text books required,” Mr Reddy said.

“There can be some cases that may arise where some students do not return the books back to their respective schools and if there is any deficiency then the extra books will be printed for next year to fill in the gap of those missing text books.”

He said the ministry had already requested assistance from the Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum to make all appropriate allocations for the printing of additional text books for 2017.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education conducted an education officers workshop yesterday to ensure improved educational leadership.

Mr Reddy said it required people to continuously examine existing practices and developments.

“Strengthening the quality to improve literacy and numeracy processes, systems and standards, including reporting and benchmarking at the national level is very important.”
