One of the two Jubilee Sailing Trust Tall Ships, SV Tenacious, is in Fiji and will be sailing twice around the country with disabled and able crew.

High Commissioner for Britain Roderick Drummond will be one of the crew members on board and he showed his excitement regarding the voyage with the disabled people of Fiji.

“We are going to be crew mates as we sail around Fiji,” Mr Drummond said.

The Jubilee Sailing Trust is an international, United Nations accredited disability charity, promoting integration through the challenge and adventure of tall ship sailing.

Mr Drummond said the experience would enable the disabled to do a full range of tasks that they would otherwise never imagined possible with the first trip setting sail tomorrow.

“When we found out that it was coming through Fiji waters we were excited to talk to our friends in the disabled organisations here and our friends in the corporate world to get some disabled young Fijians to take part in one of the voyages,” Mr Drummond said.

“This voyage will show the extent disabled people can reach when provided the right equipment.

“It shows what disabled people can do when they are fully supported when they have the environment and equipment that enables them to do full range of tasks.”

Disabled crew and names of sponsors:

  • Ruthie Senikula (Rotary Club of Suva)
  • Peni Rawaidranu (Carpenters Fiji Limited)
  • Sainimili Naivalu (Vodafone Fiji Limited)
  • Arti Devi (Coca Cola Amatil)
