The stalls that will be used for the 2016 Farmers Carnival are almost sold out, says carnival committee president Udit Narayan.

“36 out of the 40 flea market stalls have been sold while 16 out of 20 food stalls have been taken as well,” Mr Narayan said.

“We are still looking forward to more businesses to come forth and book the empty stalls.”

He said the contestants for the carnival were gearing up for the fete which will be held at Churchill Park’s Carnival grounds from July 8 to 17.

“The contestants have been rehearsing and the committee is doing all it can to make this year’s carnival a success,” Mr Narayan said.

The six contestants vying for the Farmers Carnival title are Remal Retasni Lata (Drasa Sector), Deepal Deepashna Chand (Lautoka Sector), Mereseini Lesia (Lovu Sector), Tarusila Veiroba Tukana (Saweni Sector), Brittany Meryl Verma (Natova Sector) and Kalesi Bari (Lautoka City Sector).

He said the carnival was focused raising funds to support the children who were affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

“Cyclone Winston has caused so much damage and we would be prioritising and helping out children from these areas,” he said.

“The committee is currently helping 780 students in the Lautoka area and we are aiming to raise around $25,000 this year so that these students can continue with their studies without any hindrance.”
