With less than a week left before the Vodafone Fijian 7s squad go into camp, Isake ‘Ice’ Katonibau, Emosi Mulevoro and Timoci Nagusa are hopeful to each secure a spot at the 2016 Rio Olympics in August.

The three Vodafone Fijian 7s reps were guests at the launching of the physical fitness test manual at the Fijian National University in Nasinu yesterday.

Katonibau said Coach Ben Ryan was still in England and should be in the country before the team marches into camp at the Uprising Beach Resort on Monday

“It will be a very hectic and tough 8 weeks for us, it will be very competitive so hopefully the three of us the nod,” he said.

Katonibau said they had been given two weeks to recover after the 2015-16 World Sevens Series.

“We’ve been doing a lot of swimming, low intensity of training but schedules will change next week,” he said.

Katonibau thanked the management and Ryan for the opportunity to be part of the Olympic squad.

“This is the first stage and the second stage will be the 8 weeks training so it will be intense. We will have to train hard, pull up our socks. I’m speaking on behalf of the 23 players that only the best 12 players will be representing Fiji,” he said.

After the inclusion of San Francisco 49ers’ Jarryd Hayne, Katonibau said everyone will do their best to make the cut.

“Hayne is a world class athlete, we are quite fortunate to have him around because he will raise the competition level,”Katonibau said.

“It’s massive honor for us including Hayne, to be part of the squad.

“We’re all world class athletes so we are looking forward to competing to make the final cut.”

Katonibau said the team needs the support of all Fijians.

“They are the eighth man on the team so to all Fijians, please continue to support and pray for the team because where there is a will there is way,” he said.
