48 Vessels Use Floating Dock

The floating dock Naiqasiqasi has been successfully operating since it started its operation on March, 2007.  For this year, the floating dock has serviced 48 vessels- that is for repair and maintenance works. The vessels serviced at the floating dock include inter-island ferries MV Spirit of Harmony, MV Westerland and tourist vessels as well.  Industrial and Marine Engineering Limited (IMEL) operations manager Inoke Seru confirmed yesterday that most of the vessels that use their slipway are fishing vessels.

“This figure doubles the rate of around six to seven vessels being slipped at the floating dock per month, compared to when they first commenced operations nine years ago,” he said. “We are much busier this year compared to previous years.”

The Suva-based floating dock is operated by IMEL, a division of Carpenters Fiji Ltd.

Mr Seru said that so far the services are going well and it’s been delayed after the recent cyclones. He added that that their rate is still the same.
