The people of Sigatoka will soon enjoy their own picnic recreational park.

This after a close to one million dollar development project was initiated by the Sigatoka Town Council to spice up fun and entertainment in Sigatoka.

The Sigatoka Town Council’s chief executive officer, Tulsi Ram, said they plan to create a picnic recreational area for families and tourists.

“The project has been penned down and is into its planning stage. As soon as we get the approval of the Local Government Ministry, we will start work,” he said.

The Ministry of Local Government is aware of the development plans and the council awaits the ministry’s decision on funding the development of the river bank.

Mr Ram said the council has already advertised for tenders and have begun contracting engineers for the project.

“The recreational park will be an amusement for people and families who can come and enjoy the park,” he said.

The park will also be used to host major events and it would be a tourist attraction as well.
