Fiji Sun managing editor-News Jyoti Pratibha will be heading to Brussels, Belgium, to attend and cover the European Development Days (EDD) 2016.

She will be joined by three other senior journalists: Ellen Stolz from Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, Rachna Nath from Fiji Television Limited, and Tevita Vuibau from The Fiji Times.

This is a European Union-funded initiative in partnership with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

EDD is Europe’s leading forum on development and international co-operation.

Each year, it attracts around 5000 participants from more than 140 countries, representing 1200 organisations from the field of development cooperation, human rights and humanitarian aid.

European Union deputy head of Delegation, Johnny Engell-Hansen said:  “The EU is proud to partner with SPC and GIZ to support four local journalists to attend the EDD 2016 for the first time.

“The forum will not only allow these journalists to listen and interview top European leaders and experts, but also get an insight into EU’s development co-operation in the Pacific and around the world.

“The EU looks forward to the local media coverage of the EDD in the coming weeks.’’

The event is from June 15-16 and will be one of the first international conferences to address the way forward for the ambitious 2030 Agenda-the Sustainable Development Goals.

Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi and Timor-Leste Prime Minister Rui Maria De Araujo will join European and world leaders in the opening ceremony on June 15 and will deliver keynote addresses.

European Commissioner for International Co-operation and Development, Neven Mimica and the Samoan leader will sign a financing agreement to support Samoa’s Water and Sanitation Sector and Climate Change Adaption Support Programme.
