To protect our marine environment, staff members of Bank South Pacific and the United States Embassy organised a cleanup drive on the beach this week.

BSP and US Embassy staff members gathered along at the popular My Suva Picnic Park to clean its foreshore.

BSP country manager Kevin McCarthy said: “If you start doing this it will make a big difference. It’s good that kids are telling their parents not to throw rubbish out of their vehicles,” he said.

Mr McCarthy said the penalties were not enough because people continue to throw rubbish and believes it was not being  enforced.

“This is the fourth time we have organised the cleanup with the US Embassy,” he said.
