‘Women Must Participate Equally’

Women have the right to be heard, says the Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu.
“If you are a women and a leader, you have the right to take those development issues and those concerns particularly the basics,” he said during the launch of Women’s Human Security: Women Weather Watch report in Suva on Wednesday.
Women from around the country are taking part in the consultation to discuss the National Disaster Management legislative review.
UNDP Pacific Office country director, Akiko Fujii said: “I would like to commend the efforts of FEMLINK Pacific in being able to effectively connect national to the rural and vice versa.
“FEMLINK Pacific’s Women’s Human Security First Report on Women’s Weather Watch campaigns, share exactly the same sentiments, and address these critical elements of humanitarian action,” she said.
Ms Fujii said a useful part of the report was the recommendation that it makes for Government at local and international level, and development partners.
