Driving home road message

Good to see that Hibiscus is advocating on Road Safety.

A team from the Fiji Police Force was on top of their job conducting breathalyser tests right outside the Grand Pacific Hotel during the Hibiscus contestant launch.

Dreaver offside with Samoa too

Seems we aren’t the only Pacific Islands country prepared to take action over what is deemed damaging wrong reporting by TVNZ Pacific correspondent Barbara Dreaver.

Reader has reminded us that earlier this year the New Zealand Broadcasting Standards Authority upheld a complaint against Ms Dreaver’s work instigated by Samoan PM Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi.

TVNZ was ordered to pay NZ$5000 (FJ$7300) to the Samoan government after the authority ruled a report by Ms Dreaver wrongly conveyed Samoa was “awash with guns and drugs”.

The Samoa Observer quoted PM Tuilaepa as saying the ruling was “a victory for responsible and substantive reporting”.
