Family members are now coming to terms with accepting the news that the person whose charred remains were found in a burnt out vehicle in Lautoka on Wednesday was Shalesh Chand.

A post mortem was done on the remains of the body found in the car but it could not be established as to what was the cause of death.

The body was burnt beyond recognition where it could not be established whether it was a male or female.

A family spokesperson, Imran Ali said they had yet to be notified on the cause of death from the post mortem.

He said they had however accepted that the person in the car was in fact Mr Chand.

It is believed DNA testing would be done to confirm whether the body was that of Mr Chand.

Mr Ali said the body of Mr Chand, who was a Vinod Patel Company regional manager, would be brought to their home at Kashmir in Lautoka today.

Mr Ali said people would be allowed to pay their respects at Mr Chand’s home before his body would be taken later to his parents house in Suva.

His remains would then be taken to Dignified Crematorium in Davuilevu for cremation.

Mr Chand arrived home from Rakiraki on Tuesday after working there for a week.

He told his wife Ranjini Devi he was going out somewhere.

That was the last his wife saw him.

About 2:45am on Wednesday, the morning after, Police found Mr Chand’s company vehicle at the Fiji Sugar Corporation Lautoka Mill full yard, completely burnt.

A Police source said they were still continuing with their investigations.
