Ill-treatment by public service vehicle (PSV) drivers was one hot issue raised during the Budget forum for disabled people yesterday at Brown St in Suva.

Geoffrey Ralifo, who is a member of the Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation, said PSV drivers always ill-treat the disabled community.

“I have been ill treated by the taxi drivers. I am a disabled person and the way I walk, the taxi drivers do not allow me to sit in their vehicle,” he said.

Despite the many complaints raised with the Land Transport Authority Mr Ralifo said it has never been addressed.

Another participant said most taxi drivers fail to drop off disabled people at the drop off zone or to their respective destinations.

“They always stop from a distance and it becomes very difficult for people with disability to move,” he said.

The Attorney-General and Minister for Finance, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, took note of the submissions and thanked them as well.
