The 85-year-old charged with the rape of an 11-year-old girl appeared at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Govind Sami Raju has been further remanded by Judge Justice Salesi Temo who has adjourned the case to July 8.

The prosecution had sought for 21 days to file disclosures.

The court has agreed for the next sitting on July 8 for mention where information and disclosures will be filed and served.

Defence lawyer Jitten Reddy raised concerns regarding the prosecution not providing medical reports of the victim and asked if the accused could be sent for a medical test for a penile reaction which will assist with filing for a bail application.

Justice Temo has asked the state to reply to the accused affidavit by June 24 and the accused could reply to it by July 1.

The July 8 hearing will also allow the defence to lodge for a bail application.
