Tonga rugby captain Nili Latu is looking forward to a positive outcome against the Vodafone Flying Fijians in the first round of the Pacific Nations Cup today.

Despite the limited preparation time, this would not be an excuse for the Tongans.

“I’m very pleased to where we at, at the moment, the boys are looking forward to the game,”Latu said.

“Every year we go through the same schedule, it’s going to be a big game for both teams.”

The 34-year old is proud to lead his country and this is a very special moment for him as they will also be fighting for a spot in the 2019 RWC alongside their Fijian and Samoan brothers.

“I have played for a long time now and I’m still blessed to represent my country,”Latu said.

“So nothing has change but we have a goal this year and that is to qualify for the next RWC.

The Tongans expect a tough physical match from the Fijians.

“We know the Flying Fijians are very strong, very physical and fast. We’ve prepared for the best and we have the youngest team so far in the PNC.”

Latu has so far won 43 caps for Tonga and last month the No.8 renewed his   contract with Newcastle Falcons.

He moved to the Falcons at the start of the season and has scored six tries in his 17 appearances.
