Group Urges Chefs To Join Association

Fiji Chefs Association new president, Davendra Reddy, is urging chefs to sign up for membership with them because of the opportunities in store.
With the association’s upcoming signature event, Salon Culinaire, it would be an opportune time for chefs around the country to take part for their personal and professional benefit, he said.
“This also boosts the drive with chefs networking and working closely with the community,” Mr Reddy said.
“By becoming an FCA member, an individual would benefit through works on getting quarterly events, workshop, and activities for the members’ interest.”
Mr Reddy said this during a recent meeting with his executive members. The team exchanged new ideas with the presence of former Continental Director World Board of Chefs Pacific Rim Glenn Austin.
“The meeting went pretty well as numerous agendas were discussed regarding membership drive, sponsors, National Salon Culinaire, Gourmet Pacific Challenge in Auckland late July (in conjunction with New Zealand National Salon) and the World Chefs judging Seminar,” he said.
“I would love to have the entire chefs of Fiji be an executive. This is possible. I know we have our own jobs and responsibilities but we can support our chefs.”
Mr Reddy is a Fiji National University lecturer.
He said plans were underway to have a Central Division signature event in the hopes of boosting membership and generate public interest.
“We frequently have functions in the Western Division. We aim to do a chefs event often in the Suva-Nausori corridor,” Mr Reddy said.
