The Vuna, Taveuni girl is the eldest of two children and is currently a student at St John College in Cawaci, Ovalau.

“My father is a farmer and mother is a teacher and our house is always full of my male cousins,” she said.

“So growing up all I knew was rugby from my cousins who would take me out to play touch rugby when I was in primary school.

“So it was not a bother for me playing against boys.”

She said the only sports girls participated in her area were netball and weightlifting.

“When I was given an opportunity to play rugby, I took it.”

Last year was the first time she participated in contact rugby in what was the trials for the Telecom Fijiana team to the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.

“I was surprised when I was chosen in the final squad and extremely happy,” she said.

Since then, she has not looked back and is constantly trying to improve on her game especially after she was selected into the final Telecom Fijiana team that participated at the Women Sevens Series in Dubai.

“I know the Rio Olympics is around the corner and the chances of me making it into the final squad are the same as everyone else in the squad,”she said.

“But I’ve to grab every opportunity that comes my way and make the most of it.”
