Forty-two youths converged at Viria Village for the past two weeks to attend a workshop on chainsaw operations and safety.

The workshop, which was funded by the Ministry of Youths and Sports and facilitated by the Ministry of Fisheries and Forests, would enable the participants to understand more on harvesting trees using safe methods.

Chief guest at the closing ceremony last Friday, Director for Youth and Sports, William Naisara, thanked the participants for their sacrifices in attending the two weeks workshop and said that they would be the ones to reap the rewards.

“This training is part of our Mobile Skills Training programme which enables us to take the training to the various communities and villages,” Mr Naisara said.

“Apart from all the technical training, the participants are also able to identify themselves and the paths that they want to pursue in life. They also learn of the importance of time management and how so many things can be achieved if their minds are determined in achieving their goals,” he said.

Participants from as far as Vanua Levu attended the training in Viria.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Forests have been conducting training programmes in rural areas around the country and this will continue till end of the year.
