Airports Fiji Limited has selected 11 trainee Aeronautical Technical Officers (ATOs).

This is the largest recruitment to join its Air Navigation Engineering Services (ANES) which was formerly known as Telecommunications.

AFL executive chairman, Faiz Khan, personally welcomed the new recruits to the AFL family at the Aviation Academy yesterday.

Mr Khan emphasised AFL’s philosophy of teamwork and delivery through effective communication and understanding of roles, that has become an integral part of the work culture at AFL.

“We are spending a lot of time and energy on our human resources so that our staff members have the buy-in on AFL’s strategic focus,” he said.

“We want to be a world class airport operator. How do we achieve that? We achieve that by having good systems and processes; and good people.

“We want our people to back their talents with the right attitude, so that there is continual capacity building and growth.”

New appointment

At the same time, Mr Khan announced the appointment of Kelepi Dainaki as the new manager Air Navigation Engineering Services.

Mr Dainaki in welcoming the new trainees, reminded them of the challenges that lie ahead.

“The training they will undergo is in line with the ICAO Doc 7192 training manual for Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel, followed by on-the-Job-Training,” he said.

“During this 12 months training, they will go through five phases before they get their Aeronautical Facility Technician License and rating from CAAF.

“This rating will allow them to become qualified ATO’s and work on the complex CNS/ATM systems.”

AFL looks after six million square kilometres of air space in the Nadi Flight Information Region (FIR).
