Nasinu Secondary School aims to develop soccer players to participate at district level in future.

This was after the school, launched its soccer programme in partnership with the Fiji Football Association yesterday.

School principal Apisalome Vunisa said the programme was to engage their students who had developed soccer skills from primary school level. “These are the students who also do not participate in other sports like rugby and netball,” he said.

“We will take part in the Under-15 and U19 competition in the Nasinu Football Association.”

Co-ordinator Sanjeev Mani said this was the first time that Nasinu Secondary School had formed a soccer team.

“We are giving students an opportunity to participate in soccer,” Mani said. Our teachers, who are not involved in other sports, will now be involved in soccer so we have a lot of coaching staff now.”

He said their main focus now was to be on par with the rest of the schools that dominated the sport.

“We’re trying to bring that up to that level. Even if they lose that doesn’t matter.

“We are also looking of involving females to participate in the programme.”
