Navoa Marijuana farmers are now moving further inland to farm in more treacherous terrains. Chief of Intelligence and Investigations Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Luke Navela said this as Police declared war on drugs.

So far more than 3000 marijuana plans have been found and destroyed.

“The farms are located in extremely hard to reach places and our men have trekked for hours and over the weekend, teams slept in the rain all in a bid to locate these farms,” ACP Navela said.

“We have identified quite a few farms and because the Government analyst is a part of the team, tests are conducted at the scene before the plants are destroyed.”

“One of the teams has destroyed what seemed to be a nursery where young seedlings were discovered, and this is an indication of how farmers have an intricate operation going on,” he said.

He said the officers had been briefed on the mission and that was to locate and destroy the farms and also apprehend those cultivating the illegal drug.

“While a team is combing the highlands, another team is conducting investigations with regards to those we believe to be involved in this trade and looking into the proceeds of crime,” he said.

“The Commissioner of Police has said he wants to send a strong message to those in the drug business, that we will get to them and this is what our officers are focused on”.

He said the team was also working closely with members of the community and the support and co-operation given to the team had been great.
