SODELPA  yesterday confirmed the five nominees who will contest the party leader post.

The party had to go through all the relevant background checks before announcing the names.

The five are former prime minister Sitiveni Rabuka, SODELPA MP Viliame Gavoka, Opposition Whip Ratu Isoa Tikoca, SODELPA MP Ro Kiniviliame Kiliraki and Anare Jale.

The winner will replace Ro Teimumu Kepa who continues as Opposition leader.

Interview process

General secretary Adi LItia Qionibaravi said the five would now go through the interview process before a name is tabled by the Management Board at the Annual General Meeting next Friday (June 24). The AGM will be at the Fijian Teachers Association hall in Suva starting at 11am.

There are 40 members in the Management Board. These include 20 representatives from the provinces, eight urban reps, MPs, women and youth representatives.

“We are hopeful that the name tabled during the AGM will be accepted by the members,” Adi Litia said.

Mr Rabuka is a front runner for the race.
