Issues pertaining to domestic violence between spouses must be taken into consideration when seeking the acquisition to the Hague Convention of 1996, says femLINK Pacific executive director Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls.
She said this while tabling submissions before the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence on the convention in Parliament yesterday.
During their national consultation she said 58 diverse women leaders from across Fiji’s 14 districts, reaffirmed their human security issues including pertaining to their ability to access justice and legal services.
“Similar barriers women have identified include the importance of access to information and on their legal rights in terms of settling civil disputes as well as non-discriminatory treatment by law enforcement officers and lawyers,” Ms Bhagwan-Rolls said.
