Newcomers Dreketi have a mammoth task ahead of them as they prepare for their first ever Vodafone Fiji FACT tournament, which starts on Friday at Subrail Park, Labasa. The Northerners have been struggling during the Vodafone Premier League where they recorded only one win so far.

Adding woes to their preparation is the absence of coach Arthur Simmons but stepping in his place is assistant coach Roneel Ram.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday Ram said being first- timers was always hard.

“We are placed in the pool of death where we face Ba, Nadi and Rewa,” he said.

“These three teams are the giants of Fiji football and also they are currently in top form.”

Dreketi take on Nadi in their first pool game on Friday.

“The knowledge I gained during the Fiji Football Association organised senior level coaching clinic will now be put to test. I have worked out a plan for the first game and will be putting it to test. After the post-match analysis of the first match then I will be in a position to work things out for the second match,” he said.

“We are taking one game at a time with a set target of reaching the semi-finals when the curtains go down on Sunday.”

Dreketi’s campaign is now boosted with the return of veteran midfielder Henry Dyer. Also joining them are Ashneel Raju, Vikranth Chandra, Shaneel Naidu, Sanaila Bati and Menon Ram.

“Our squad consist of experienced and youth players.”

Ram said Ravikash Krishna a Year 12 student of Labasa Sangam College is going to make his debut in the tournament.

“He played for Labasa Youth last year and is all set to appear for Dreketi in the Fiji FACT.”

Ram also urged their fans to come out in numbers and support their players as they take on the giants of Fiji football.
