A family in Nawakalevu of Nawaka, Nadi is mourning the death of their sister and mother.

The 35-year-old, Ajeshni Lata, who was badly burned in a house fire last week, died at the Lautoka Hospital on Sunday morning.

Ms Lata had been hospitalised since the evening of June 5 after her house was engulfed by fire which Police had determined to be arson.

Her only son, Jason Krishna, 17, was still coming to terms with the incident that had brought sadness to his family.

“I am speechless; since the day I visited my mother I thought she would be back at home with me but that is not going to happen now,” he said in an emotional tone.

Jason said he would miss the beautiful singing voice of his mother.

“My mum loved different kinds of music,” he said.

The victim’s elder sister Saleshni Lata, said: “She’s everything all in one; she loved to talk to everyone and laughed the loudest in the family and was a very strong lady.

“I still don’t understand what happened. It was all so sudden. We were very close growing up, even now when we are married we still visit each other,” Ms Lata said.

The post-mortem is expected to be conducted today and she will be cremated at the Wailoaloa crematorium in the afternoon.
