A 39-year-old man charged with the murder of his younger brother over a bowl of dhal was granted bail by the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Justice Vincent Perera granted Aisake Vana Junior bail with a surety of $2000 after an application from defence lawyer Nemani Tuifagalele.

The bail condition is for Vana not to offend, not to change his residential address, not to apply for travel documents and not to interfere with the prosecution witnesses. He is to report to the Lami Police Station between 6am and 6pm every Monday starting on June 20.

It is alleged that an argument broke out between the accused and his younger brother over a bowl of dhal. The younger brother allegedly threw a punch at the accused and as a result the accused allegedly stabbed the younger brother in retaliation which allegedly caused the death.

The court has been adjourned to July 5.
